A Boeing 737 cockpit view of the approach and landing into the Tegucigalpa airport located in Honduras. Tegucigalpa (TGU) is considered by many to be one of the world's most dangerous airports due to; the steep approach required; elevation; short, sloping runway and high terrain in very close proximity.

Toncontín International Airport (IATA: TGU, ICAO: MHTG) is a civil and military airport that serves Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It is 6 km away from Tegucigalpa's centre. The airport's single runway is 2025 m (6132 feet) in length and is at an altitude of 1090 m (3,297 feet). Boeing 757s are the largest aircraft that can land at Toncontin, as it is one of the shortest international runways in the world. During the Football War of 1969, Toncontin was a major target for the Salvadorian air force, and it was bombed on several occasions. In 2000, the airport handled 6,895,267 tonnes of cargo, 12,911 aircraft and 364,141 passengers. Toncontin International Airport has 4 gates (2 in the new terminal), 2 baggage claim belts, 150 short term parking spaces, a post office, a bank, a bureau de change, many restaurants, several airline lounges, a duty free shop, car rental services and a first aid room. They are renewing the old terminal, which will be used for domestic flights in the future. The new terminal is now used for international flights (also for the flight to Miami with a stop in Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, San Pedro Sula). Toncontin is also the home of the Aeroclub de Honduras. The origin of the name Toncontín is unknown. This airport has received much criticism for being one of the most dangerous in the world (due to its vicinity to a sierra,) and for years efforts have been made to replace it with Palmerola airport in Comayagua, currently a United States airbase. Toncontín has been improved significantly by the work of CAT (the Airport Corporation of Tegucigalpa) and by INTERAIRPORTS, a company hired by the government of the Honduras to administer the four airports of the country.

World's Most Dangerous Airports - Worst Airport Land 10. Princess Juliana AirportSaint Martin 9. Madeira AirportPortugal 8. Sea Ice of the Antarctic 7. Gibraltar AirportGibraltar Stopped at a red light while driving because of the car, train or vehicle of a kind passerby has indeed. But have you ever imagined when you have to stop at a red light and a central passing exactly in front of you? Gibraltar airport is an airport is indeed a most bizarre, unique and dangerous. The runway was cross paths with the main roads of the city so that each plane will fly or landing, the vehicles must stop. But lucky, though crowded and dangerous, this airport had never even happened a big accident. 6. Barra Airport – Scotland is the only airport, which is also the location of public beaches. Don't expect you will enjoy a romantic time on the beach, because there is a warning about the possibility of a landing aircraft should be avoided. The runway was very short, even in the three runways belonging to Barra this airport only marked with wooden poles. During nighttime, the airport was closed by a pair of sea water, therefore, the airport became very exclusive because it can only be used for scheduled flights and not for the evening. 5. Curchevel Airport – French Alps have you ever watched a movie Tomorrow Never Dies? One of the prominent actor, Pierce Brossnan ever landing at the airport in one set. But please note, that only the special pilot certified are permitted to land or take off at the airport. This is normal, because his position is located in the Saint Bon Tarentaise, Alps, France, is very dangerous. Moreover, with a very short runway and the steep slope with approx. 18.5 percent. 4. Gustav III Airport – Saint Barthelemy also known as Saint Barthelemy and St Jean Airport. It is located in the village of St. Jean in one Caribbean island named Saint Barthelemy. Its airport is very small with narrow runway, short and ran into the slopes of the main roads of the city and dealing directly with the sea. Wow! Really incredible extreme. The plane must dip sharply during approach because it must pass on the other end of the runway. 3. Matekane Airport – Lesotho Airport this one no less dangerous, it is facing exactly to the brink in the high mountains with a height of 2,000 feet is not just any airport. It takes extraordinary skill of the pilots for landing or taking off from this airport. Wind conditions played an important role in determining the process of flight or landing. Aircraft wishing to parking here is also not allowed to fly before it reaches the end of the runway at an altitude of 1,312 ft. 2. Saba Airport – island of Saba Caribbean Caribbean island is indeed notable, but in addition to its beauty, there is also an airport that included one of the dangerous in the world. The airport is Saba, which has a runway 1,300 meters. No wonder it is dubbed as the airport with the shortest. Its location surrounded by a precipice with the sea breeze that toned, barely letting the pilot Err at all or risk of accident will be faced by aircraft. For the landing, the plane must fly to the Bank before making a sharp turn to the left and finally landed smoothly. 1. Toncotin Airport an airport is located in Honduras Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras. The runway was located in the Valley of the mountains, with only one runway with bumpy conditions for landing and takeoff. But large-sized aircraft range of Boeing 757 still often landed in the airport. The atmosphere of the airport is very dirty and messy, the condition of any passengers waiting Chair slightly and uncomfortable. Not only that, the floors were dirty and also keeps visitors and anyone feel uncomfortable when see it. Whether you are planning a holiday to Honduras? If Yes, you have to go through the airport before encircling Honduras. ========================== worst airport in the world most dangerous airports most dangerous airports in the world worst airports in the us world's most dangerous airports world's worst airport world dangerous airport most extreme airports dangerous airport in the world shortest runway in the world most unsafe airlines worlds most dangerous airports the most dangerous airport in the world dangerous airport in world world's most extreme airports ========================== Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/Mega-News-13... The international airport in Honduras' capital, Tegucigalpa, ranks as one of the most dangerous in the world. The runway in Tegucigalpa is much shorter than average and is located in the middle of valleys that are tricky for pilots to navigate. Commercial jets are the hardest to land safely, and have accounted for most of the casualties in six fatal crashes since 1989, in which more than 160 people have died. Now, there are plans to build a new airport alongside a longer and safer runway at a military base outside the capital. Al Jazeera's Adam Raney reports from Tegucigalpa in Honduras as part of our special series on Transport and Communities.

http://melcutler.com Adventure to the 2nd most dangerous airport in the world. Check out this vid I took from inside the plane left wing side. We get so close to the houses and trees and did a pretty sharp turn. You have to be specially trained to land on this run way.....so rad!!! Some wiki facts: The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranks it as the second most dangerous airport in the world.[2] The approach to the airport is considered to be one of the most difficult in the world to all aircraft, especially in inclement weather conditions. AA landing in Tegucigalpa, post May 2009 984 ft extension increasing the length of the runway from 6112 ft to its current 7096 ft., combined with further blasting of hill on approach which somewhat decreases the risks and approach angle. http://melcutler.com The airport received much notoriety as being one of the most dangerous in the world due to its proximity to mountainous terrain, its short runway, and its historically difficult approach to runway 02.[2] For years efforts have been made to replace it with Soto Cano airport in Comayagua, currently an airbase. Toncontín has, however, been significantly improved by the work of the Airport Corporation of Tegucigalpa (ACT) and InterAirports, a company contracted by the Honduran government to administer the country's four major airports. The airport has a single asphalt runway, which sits at an elevation of 1,005 m (3,297 ft) AMSL. Until May 2009 the runway was only 6,112 ft (1,863 m) in length. In 2007 the approach to runway 02 was made significantly easier by work which systematically bulldozed a large portion of the hillside, immediately before the threshold. Following on from this work, in May 2009, the southern end of the runway received a 984 ft (300 m) extension, lengthening it to 7,096 ft (2,163 m). As of 2011 the runway is listed as being 2,021 m × 45 m (6,631 ft × 148 ft) Boeing 757s are the largest aircraft that normally land at Toncontín. Even with its recent runway extension, Toncontín's runway is still significantly shorter than most international airports.

Top 10 airports that are the most dangerous in the world. Amazing airport facts top list. 10 Most Dangerous Airports In The World 10 Toncontin Airport, Tegucigalpa, Honduras Toncontin airport in Honduras was ranked as the 2nd most dangerous airport in the world by The History Channel's Most Extreme Airports show. 09 Courchevel International Airport in France Courchevel is an airport serving the courchevel ski resort in the French Alps. This is another airport with a very short runway coming in at 1,762 feet and its extreme gradient of 18.6%. 08 Gibraltar International Airport Next up we have Gibraltar international airport. The history channel ranked this airport number 5 on its list of most extreme airports in the world due to strong cross wind around the rock of gibraltar and across the bay of Algeciras which makes the winter landings extremely difficult. 07 McMurdo Station, Antarctica next up on our list is probably one of the most remote airports in the world. McMurdi Air Station is located on the south tip of Ross Island in the antarctic. The runways at the air strip are all ice which can make for some very interesting landings. The remains of a crash that occurred in 1970 still sit off to the side of the strip. The most interesting fact about this airstrip is that because of the perpetual darkness during many months of the year and lack of landing lights, pilots have been trained to land their craft at the field using night vision goggles. Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten This is probably the most recognizable airport on our list. Its most famous runway, Runway 10 is over water creating the potential for pilots to become disoriented regarding their perceived altitude while operating under visual flight rules when landing. Now if you thought landing here was difficult enough, departing is even more difficult as the pilot must take evasive measures to avoid mountains in the take-off path. 05 Lukla Airport in Nepal Lukla Airport in Nepal is not only dangerous, but it is also considered the most scary airport in the world. If visiting Mt. Everest is on your bucket list, then this is the airport where you'll most likely be landing. Situated rather inconveniently between mountains its incredibly short runway that is only 65 feet wide and 1,500 feet long proves challenging to even the most skilled pilot. 04 MCAS Futenma, Okinawa The Marine Corps Air Station in Okinawa Japan is ranked by the Navy and Marine corps as the most dangerous air station in the world.” Situated in a densely populated area with over 3,000 people living in what is supposed to be a clear zone surrounding airports has created a cause for concern over the safety and well being of not only the pilots but the citizens in the area. 03 Narsarsuaq Airport The airfields in greenland are much like the ones in the antarctic, covered in ice. The one at Naarsarsuaq airport is considered to be the most difficult runway in the world. With near constant storms in the area creating turbullence and low visibility while approaching, there are also dangerous wind shears that make these ice landings difficult and dangerous. And if that wasn't enough, let's add in an active volcano that routinely erupts sending clouds of ass into the air which ccan cause the airplane engines to stall. 02 Cristiano Ronaldo internationl Airport (Madeira Airport) This airport formerly known as madeira Airport is located in the Portugese archipelago of madeira. It is considered one of the most perilous airports in the world due to its location, its relatively short runway that was surrounded by mountains Paro Airport in Bhutan, Himalayan Mountains Paro Airport was said to be so dangerous that only 8 pilots were qualified to land there. Considered one of the most, if not the most dangouers airport in the world, it sits among the steep Himalayan mountains with peaks up to 18.000 feet high. If that doesn't make the landing difficult enough, planes have to actually weave though the dozens of houses scattered along the mountainside, coming so close they almost knick the roof tops. The mountain valleys cause strong winds to whip through them causing the severe turbulence leading passengers to describe the landings as terrifying. Landing and departing is so difficult at this airport, that flights are only allowed during daytime and what is called visual meteorological conditions, meaning the pilots can actually make judgements by what they see rather than using instruments. All this doesn't discourage people from visiting the area. The airport has over 30,000 tourists passing through it each year. That wraps up a top 10 list of the most dangerous airports in the world. Coming up in our Most Dangerous In The World List: Most Dangerous Places In The World Most Dangerous Kids In The World Most Dangerous Most Dangerous Dogs In The World Most Dangerous Tourist Destinations In The World.

Top 10 of the most scariest runways of airports around the world Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Other Videos You Might Like 10 Deadly Natural Disasters Caught on Video https://youtu.be/zQYe3ngG6qs 10 Most Dangerous Roads in the World https://youtu.be/VdoAFK3FD1Y Description: Air travel is stressful at the best of times. Even before reaching the airport, you contend with concerns related to packing and transportation. Once you get there, you begin to work through a series of plodding lines for various security measures, complete with a nerve-wracking encounter with a no-nonsense customs official. Then comes the flight, itself, as you lock yourself in within a tin box and venture through a series of typical plane activity, such as bumpy turbulence and the occasional heart-stopping drop in altitude. The process of air travel remains a remarkable and often over-looked innovation. Consider that for all of the gripes and complaints travellers have with the discomfort and inconvenience of planes, they are still vehicles that operate thousands of miles in the air and routinely carry passengers across the globe in a matter of hours. But on-going technological developments and advancements haven’t completely eliminated air safety concerns that are capable of emerging from factors like poor visibility and slippery weather conditions. In 2014, tragic flight disasters involving two Malaysian Airlines flights and an AirAsia commercial jet contributed to 990 air travel fatalities among 21 crashes on the year. Of course, lest we spook you and fuel an aversion to flying, air travel remains a very safe means of transportation statistically. In spite of the high number of fatalities, the 21 fatal crashes in 2014 represented an all-time low, coming on approximately 30 million commercial flights. To put that in perspective, those numbers leave you with a 0.000007% chance of being onboard one of those flights, or one in 1.43 million. Statistically speaking, you have a better chance at being killed by lightning or a fatal dog attack than via plane travel. Plane safety regulations help diminish the risk involved in air travel, but so do the personnel involved. Highly trained pilots skillfully navigate their way through challenging takeoffs and tricky landings, consistently engineering smooth, pleasant travel experiences for passengers despite the high degree of difficulty involved. This can be particularly true in more remote flight destinations, where natural landscapes can offer striking beauty, but also treacherous and complicated terrains. Sometimes, pilots are forced to contend with these terrains of less-than-ideally located landing strips. This list tackles some of the world’s most dangerous airports, those which put pilots to the test. These airports challenge air aces with high elevation, short runways, difficult natural conditions and precariously-situated landing strips. They may well offer some truly stunning scenery as you begin your descent, but they are also capable of offering a white-knuckled, nail-biting experience for passengers as they approach their gate. The troublesome landscapes represented here, including those with weather issues, perilously narrow landing strips and poorly thought out landing sites, make for a set of airports that had a whole new challenging dimension to air travel for those who man the cockpit. One airport on this list, meanwhile, earned its place for mythical and strangely conspiratorial reasons more so than any legitimate runway-related safety concerns. Most dangerous airports in the world! These airports will even make the toughest travellers have fear of flying. Subscribe for new videos: http://goo.gl/SaufF4 8: Gibraltar International Airport, Gibraltar Due to a lack of space in the small British Overseas Territory, the Gibraltar International Airport's runway actually passes through a main road in the city. Roads intersecting with railway tracks are very common, but roads intersecting airport runways is almost unheard of! Road traffic through the High Street Winston Churchill - which is Gibraltar’s main road towards its border with Spain - is made to stop every time the runway is used for an aircraft landing or take off. Amazingly, no major accident has ever occurred so far, as everyone 7: Princess Juliana Airport, Saint Martin This airport, named after Princess Juliana of the Netherlands who landed here in 1944, was initially built for small planes only, and for this reason the runway is only a little over 7000 feet long. To put that into perspective, large aircrafts usually require at least 8000 feet of runway to ensure a safe landing, or maybe even 10,000 feet for really large aircrafts. But when the tourist industry in St Martin began to bloom, the airport opened access to Boeing 747 and Airbus A340 airplanes as part of its regular air traffic rotation, both of which are jumbo sized airplanes. However, the landing strip remained in its original short length. The reason that makes this international airport 6: Barra Airport, Scotland This terrifying Scottish airport is one of a kind. Barra Airport is a short runway airport located in a wide shallow bay at Barra Island, Scotland. Its unique runway doubles as a beach, the very same sands that people walk along and play around on during the airport's off-hours. For those looking to enjoy a nice stroll along the beach, warning signs 5: Courchevel Altiport, France Courchevel Altiport is an aerodrome for small planes and helicopters that serve Courchevel, a ski resort situated high in the French Alps. For many reasons, most pilots choose to avoid using this deadly airport at all costs. The airport is built right into the French Alps, and planes have to navigate through a narrow valley in order to descend and prepare for landing on its extremely short runway. In fact, the runway is the shortest of any airport in the world at only 537 meters, and forces planes to touch down at inclined angles just to slow down. Since the place is surrounded by mountainous terrain, there are absolutely no go-around procedures for landings. This means 4: Damascus International Airport, Syria By technical standards alone, the Damascus International Airport is considered safe. The runway has a standard length, the area's terrain is even, and the weather is stable. However, there has been a bloody civil war going on in Syria since 2011. Because of constant fighting between multiple factions, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, and millions more are displaced. Despite all that, the international airport in Syria's capital is still operating, and remains 3: Toncontin International Airport, Honduras As you may expect, airports in mountainous regions can be extremely difficult to land at due to the irregular terrain and short approaches. Toncontin International Airport in Tegucilpa, Honduras' capital city is a good example. The airport is located in a low valley surrounded by mountains, and has a short runway that is only 7000 feet long. The place opened in the early 1930s when planes were much smaller and less powerful, and not requiring long runways. But for today's regular commercial airplane to make a safe landing, a pilot would have to navigate through a series of hurdles. After getting through the rough 2: Madeira Airport, Portugal When Madeira Airport was first opened on the Portuguese archipelago in 1964, it had a very short runway of only over 5000 feet long. In 1977, the airport witnessed a gruesome accident that killed 131 people on board an incoming Boeing 727. Due to heavy rain and winds resulting in poor visibility, the plane overran the short runway and plunged over a steep bank. It crashed through a stone bridge and ended up on the beach, splitting in two and bursting into flames. The disaster prompted Portuguese officials to extend the runway 1: Lukla Airport, Nepal The Lukla Airport in Nepal is well known as the place where mountain climbers start their ascent towards Mount Everest Base Camp. In 2008, the airport was renamed Tenzing Hillary Airport, in honor of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first two people to reach Mount Everest's summit. Apart from being known as the entry point to the tallest mountain in the world, the airport has gained infamy for the dangers it poses. On History Channel's "Most Extreme Airports" broadcasted in 2010, Nepal's Lukla Airport was rated

One of the world's most dangerous approaches (and definitely scariest) to landing is the final approach into Toncontin Intl. (MHTG) located in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The airport's runway is a mere 6,112 feet in length where the airport stands at 3,294 ft. MSL. Believe it or not, this airport is actually an International airport with a runway as small as it is and (according to FSX) the airport is not equipped w/ an ILS which forces the pilot to make a visual approach to land. There have been numerous accidents involving airliners into this airport over the past few years striking fear into those who dare to venture it's way! In the video, I show the steep turn onto final for visual RWY 01 in a B738 (Delta Repaint). Delta Air Lines actually serves this airport (from Atlanta): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toncont%C3%ADn_International_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations Recorded w/ Microsoft FSX w/ Realism settings on: High.
